Agadir – Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, received today in Rabat the UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, during his second official visit to Morocco.
“Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, received today in Rabat the UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, who is undertaking his second official visit to Morocco,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
According to a statement from the ministry, discussions between the two sides focused on “the major role and substantial, exemplary contribution of the Kingdom of Morocco to United Nations peacekeeping operations.”
The statement pointed out that Morocco’s engagement in UN peacekeeping stems from a royal strategic vision grounded in the country’s long-standing commitment to international peace and security operations, a commitment that dates back to 1960.
It further noted that Morocco is currently ranked ninth among the largest troop-contributing countries to UN peacekeeping missions.
The country also chairs the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) for 2026 and serves as coordinator of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) on peacekeeping issues, reflecting what the statement described as the international community’s trust in Morocco’s role in global peace and security.
“Lacroix’s visit comes at a time when the Secretary-General of the United Nations has launched extensive reform projects both within the framework of the “UN 80” Initiative aimed at simplifying and streamlining the UN Secretariat and within the framework of the strategic and comprehensive review of all peacekeeping operations,” the ministry explained.
The meeting in Rabat reflects continued coordination between Morocco and the United Nations on peacekeeping priorities, particularly at a moment of institutional reform within the UN system.
