Casablanca — With just less than 48 hours to go before Morocco takes on its first match in the 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament, the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaa, has joined the national team’s delegation in the United States.

Lekjaa arrived in New Jersey yesterday, where the Atlas Lions have been based throughout their stay in the country. His visit comes as Morocco is gearing up for its very first Group Stage match against Brazil, which will take place tomorrow at MetLife Stadium.

During his visit, the FRMF president met with members of the squad and the technical staff led by head coach Mohamed Ouahbi. The visit was part of ongoing support for the national team ahead of one of its biggest tests of the tournament.

The Moroccan camp is preparing for the World Cup under challenging circumstances following the withdrawal of Nayef Aguerd and Abdessamad Ezzalzouli. Both players were forced to pull out of the tournament due to injuries. Despite those absences, preparations have continued in a calm atmosphere, with players focused on the task ahead.

On Thursday afternoon, Morocco held a training session at Pingry School in New Jersey as part of its build-up to the Brazil match. The game will kick off on Saturday, June 13, at 6 p.m. local time and 11 p.m. in Morocco.

Meanwhile, Ouahbi is scheduled to hold a press conference on Friday, June 12, at 3.30 p.m. local time, corresponding to 8.30 p.m. in Morocco. The coach is expected to discuss the team’s preparations and the upcoming encounter against Brazil.

Morocco will begin its World Cup campaign against Brazil before facing Scotland on June 19 in Boston. The Atlas Lions will then conclude the group stage on June 24 against Haiti in Atlanta. All three matches are scheduled to kick off at 11 p.m. Moroccan time.

The national team remains in New Jersey as it enters the final countdown to its World Cup opener.
