Rabat – Despite a strong start to the tournament, Morocco coach Mohamed Ouahbi insists the Atlas Lions have not yet hit their peak ahead of their final Group C clash with Haiti.
Ouahbi expressed immense satisfaction with his team’s performance following a crucial 1-0 victory over Scotland in their second group-stage match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The game took place on Friday at Boston Stadium, giving Morocco four points from their first two group matches and putting them in a strong position to advance.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Ouahbi noted that the national team showed significant improvement compared to their opening game. He emphasized that despite scoring only once, the players demonstrated a stronger desire to attack and created far more goalscoring opportunities.
“We controlled the match and imposed our style of play, and I am very satisfied because I saw much better intent than in the first game,” the Moroccan coach said. “We were more active inside the opponent’s penalty area and had a clear desire to score more goals, but we just lacked that final touch.”
While pleased with the immediate result against Scotland, Ouahbi made it clear that he views the tournament as a continuous learning process for his players.
“I can see that we have improved compared to the first match, which is why I believe we will be even better in the third game. The most important thing is securing the victory and continuing to grow from one match to the next,” he added.
Ouahbi further hailed his team’s defensive discipline under late pressure, acknowledging that defending Scotland’s aerial assault in the final minutes was a vital test of his squad’s maturity.
“We knew Scotland would put us under pressure at the end of the match and rely on long balls and crosses, but our players showed great character and maintained their composure. This kind of finish will benefit us a lot during the rest of our tournament run,” he explained.
Morocco will now turn their full attention to their final Group C fixture against Haiti, aiming to secure the top spot in the group and head into the knockout rounds with maximum momentum.
