Rabat – Syrian striker Omar Al-Somah believes the Netherlands would face a much smoother path to the 2026 FIFA World Cup knockout rounds by drawing Brazil in the round of 32 rather than the Moroccan side.
According to the veteran forward, the Atlas Lions currently present a far more difficult challenge for the Dutch than the five-time world champions, reflecting Morocco’s established status as one of the most elite and difficult opponents in modern football.
Speaking as a pundit on beIN Sports’ analytical studio, Al-Somah argued that the Dutch would find Brazil a much more manageable opponent.
“If the Netherlands wants to qualify during the next round, it is better for them to face Brazil, because it is easier for them than Morocco,” the Syrian striker stated.
The unexpected remarks quickly sparked widespread debate among fans and analysts, with many pointing to Morocco’s recent defensive masterclasses as validation for the claim.
If the Netherlands finishes top of Group F, they will face the runner-up of Group C in the Round of 32. This scenario offers the Dutch a theoretically smoother entry into the knockout stage.
However, if they finish second behind Japan, they would take on the winner of Group C, potentially setting up a difficult clash with either Brazil or Morocco.
Morocco will close out their Group C campaign against Haiti on June 24 at the Atlanta Stadium, looking to secure a vital victory to guarantee their spot at the top of the standings heading into the knockout rounds.
Meanwhile, the Haitian squad currently sits at the bottom of the group with zero points after consecutive defeats, meaning they will be playing strictly for pride.
