Rabat – Didier Deschamps has called his players’ attention to the danger coming from the Iraq team ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup fixture against France, urging them to remain fully focused and respect an opponent he described as organized and physically strong.
He added that Iraq are capable of creating trouble for France’s defensive line, warning his squad not to lose concentration at any stage of the match.
He pointed to Iraq’s results, a draw against Spain in a friendly, using them as examples of their competitiveness at international level.
Deschamps also underlined Iraq’s tactical identity, noting their structured 4-4-2 system built on discipline and direct attacking play, making them a difficult opponent to break down.
The threat to France is led by Ali Al-Hamadi and Ayman Hussein, two physically strong forwards who have played a central role in Iraq’s performances throughout the tournament and the friendly matches as well.
France continue their World Cup campaign, considered by many pundits as strong contenders to win the title, backed up by an experienced squad and consistent performances that reinforce their status among the leading contenders for the title.
Iraq, on the other hand, have built a reputation as one of the most disciplined and resilient sides in the competition. Although they lost against Norway 4-1, they have earned respect through organization and intensity.
The clash is considered a test for both teams, with France expected to impose their quality, while Iraq aim to secure three points to find their way out of the group stage and qualify for the next round.
