Rabat -Yassine Gessime expressed his happiness after scoring his first World Cup goal during Morocco’s victory over Haiti 4-2. This moment was even more special for him because it came in his debut appearance at the tournament.
“I’m happy to score my first goal in my first World Cup match,” the young midfielder said after the final whistle.
The goal capped a memorable evening for one of Morocco’s emerging young talents, who etched his name on football’s biggest stage. Having previously played for Morocco at the U20 World Cup, where he helped the team win the title with two goals and three assists, Gessime once again proved his value on a major stage. Scoring in a World Cup is a rare achievement even for football’s best strikers, while doing so on debut makes the occasion even more special.
At 20, Gessime Yassine now plays for RC Strasbourg after previously playing for USL Dunkerque. Transfermarkt lists his market value at around €12.00 million. His World Cup goal against Haiti felt like another important step in a career that is still only in the beginning.
While the victory helped Morocco move closer to its objectives in the tournament, it also helped Gessime add a personal milestone in his career. A first World Cup appearance and a first World Cup goal made his debut especially memorable, introduced him to fans around the world, and could open the door to new opportunities and a rise in his market value.
