Fez – The Banque Centrale Populaire (BCP) Group and Western Union have introduced a new international money transfer solution that enables people abroad to send money directly to bank accounts in Morocco in real time.
The service is based on a direct application programming interface (API) integration between the two companies’ systems.
It allows transfers to be processed instantly and securely, removing the need for recipients to wait before accessing their funds.
The new platform is designed to support Moroccans living abroad and their families by making cross-border transfers faster and more convenient.
It combines BCP’s banking network with Western Union’s international presence, which covers more than 200 countries and territories.
“This project reflects our ambition to put technology and innovation at the service of our customers,” said Idriss Bensmail, General Manager in charge of Retail Banking at BCP Group.
He said the direct connection between Western Union’s systems and BCP’s banking infrastructure offers Moroccans living abroad and their relatives a modern, seamless and secure transfer experience, while supporting the bank’s open banking strategy.
Western Union also described the partnership as an important step in expanding access to financial services.
Mohamed Touhami El Ouazzani, Western Union’s Regional President for Africa, said the two companies share the goal of helping customers in Morocco stay connected with the people and opportunities that matter most to them.
He added that the agreement strengthens a long-standing partnership and allows Banque Populaire customers to benefit from Western Union’s global financial network through real-time money transfers.
Western Union thanked BCP for its continued trust and praised the teams involved in launching the service, saying the partnership will improve financial connectivity and create more value for customers in Morocco and abroad.
The companies said the API integration also creates opportunities to introduce additional cross-border payment services in the future, further supporting BCP’s position in Morocco’s growing open banking sector and promoting greater financial inclusion.
