Rabat – France center-back William Saliba expects a demanding encounter against Morocco as the two sides prepare for their 2026 FIFA World Cup quarter-final, with the French international pointing to the Atlas Lions’ consistency and discipline as major concerns.
Saliba spoke with clear respect for Morocco’s run so far, noting that the team has managed to stand firm against some of the tournament’s strongest sides.
“Morocco is a very strong team. They have defeated big teams since the start of the World Cup, and most importantly, they haven’t lost any match. So, we know it won’t be easy,” he said in a post-match press conference after France’s game with Paraguay.
Morocco arrive at this stage on the back of a convincing result against Canada, a performance that reinforced their reputation as one of the most organized teams in the competition. Their defensive structure has limited opponents’ chances, while several players have shown the ability to make a difference in key moments.
Saliba acknowledged this balance, with particular attention to Morocco’s defensive approach.
“They are a very good team, they defend excellently, and they have many players with individual capabilities,” he added.
The French defender also pointed to fatigue after a demanding schedule, with recovery set to play a role before the next fixture.
“This means we first need to rest, as we are a bit tired now, and then prepare well for this match,” he said.
France now face a Morocco side that continues to exceed expectations and impose its style against high-level opposition. The quarter-final sets up a clash between experience and momentum, with both teams aware that small details could decide the outcome.
Morocco will face France in a high-stakes World Cup quarter-final on Thursday, July 9, at 9 p.m. Moroccan time, at Boston Stadium in Foxborough.
