Rabat – The midfielder Jordan Henderson will reportedly undergo surgery after breaking his arm during a post-match celebration following England’s Round of 16 victory over Mexico at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Henderson tried to hop the wall behind the goal but clipped his foot on the way down, throwing out his arm to break his fall. An injury this strange only makes the situation harder to take.
Thomas Tuchel explained to reporters that the injury looked quite bad, though he admitted that he is still unsure about the medical procedures or the surgery.
Henderson will miss the remainder of the World Cup with England after coming through a tough clash against Mexico. One of the squad’s most experienced players, he had played a central role in the team’s campaign.Â
Questions have emerged over a possible replacement for the 36-year-old, but according to the Mirror, England cannot call up a substitute for the injured midfielder. The team will therefore continue its World Cup campaign with a 25-man squad.
England secured four wins in the World Cup, beating Croatia 4-2, Panama 2-0, Congo DR 2-1, and Mexico 2-3, alongside a goalless draw against a resolute Ghana side.Â
England will play Norway on Saturday, July 11. The winner of this match will advance to the semifinals, where they will meet one of Argentina, Egypt, Switzerland, or Colombia.
