Rabat – FIFA has appointed Argentine referee Facundo Tello to officiate Morocco’s World Cup quarterfinal against France.
The match will take place on Thursday at Boston Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 8 p.m. GMT, 9 p.m. Moroccan time.
Tello will be assisted by his compatriots Juan Pablo Belatti and Gabriel Chade.
Dario Herrera will serve as the fourth official, while Christian Navarro has been named as the reserve assistant referee.
The appointment comes ahead of one of the most anticipated matches of the tournament.
Morocco reached the quarterfinals after defeating Canada 3-0, while France advanced with a 1-0 win over Paraguay.
The match will also be a rematch of the 2022 World Cup semifinal, when France defeated Morocco 2-0 in Qatar.
For Morocco, the game represents another chance to reach the World Cup semifinals and continue a historic run.
Tello’s performance will be closely watched, especially after several refereeing decisions have already created debate during the knockout stage.
France recently asked FIFA to cancel Michael Olise’s yellow card from the Paraguay match, adding more attention to disciplinary decisions before the quarterfinal.
Morocco also enter the match with key players carrying yellow cards, making referee management another important part of Thursday’s game.
With both teams fighting for a semifinal place, Tello and his team are expected to face a high-pressure night in Boston.
The winner of Morocco-France will advance to the semifinals, where they will face the winner of the quarterfinal involving Spain and Belgium.
