Rabat – Morocco made history by becoming the first African nation to reach a World Cup semi-final in 2022. Although the Atlas Lions were ultimately knocked out by France, they are now looking to replicate that achievement as they prepare to face Les Bleus again today for a place in the semi-finals.
Currently ranked sixth in FIFA’s world rankings, Morocco has built on its remarkable World Cup performance and now seeks another deep run in the tournament.
“Morocco has the potential to be a powerhouse of world football,” Welsh football observer Neil Ward said.
Ward witnessed Morocco’s semi-final qualification during the last World Cup and recalled how celebrations swept across the country into the early hours, with even King Mohammed VI joining in the festivities.
Morocco now stands as Africa’s sole representative in the quarter-finals following Egypt’s elimination, mirroring the Qatar tournament, where no other African team advanced beyond the Round of 16.
“This is not an accident,” Ward added. “It’s a result of clear national ambition.”
