Rabat – Coach Didier Deschamps has made it clear that his captain Kylian Mbappé is set for the semifinal match against Spain, which will take place today at Dallas Stadium, finally settling the question marks.
It all began from the quarterfinal encounter against Morocco, during which Mbappé got an ankle injury after scoring a goal to help his team win the match by 2-0 scoreline.
He had to leave the pitch in the 77th minute due to the injury and was later seen wearing ice packs on his affected ankle.
Some media reportsfrom France indicate that he was still recovering from the injury.
His move to join other training sessions on Monday without the main squad further fueled speculations.
Questions had started coming up because Spain had not lost in 36 consecutive games, whether Mbappé’s involvement should be managed or restricted became a real talking point.
Deschamps relieved fans, speaking to reporters before the semi-final, he insisted Mbappé “feels good,” brushing aside the idea that the modified session was injury-related.
He explained his captain was simply doing 10 minutes in one drill instead of 15, a workload tweak, not a red flag.
The stats make clear why France can’t afford to be without him.
Eight goals so far this tournament, and his strike against Morocco brought him to 20 goals in 20 career World Cup appearances.
He currently tops the Golden Boot race, ahead of Messi on assists.
There was a second fitness boost, too.
Deschamps also gave an update on Aurélien Tchouameni, confirming the midfielder, who’d been managing a recent knock, is now available for selection, even if not fully cleared.
France arrive at this semi-final on the back of the tightest defensive run of any of the last four teams.
Six goals scored in the knockout rounds, none conceded, that’s the record France bring into Tuesday.
Facing a Spain side unbeaten in 36 games, France know the test ahead is unlike any other. Deschamps, though, isn’t wavering: his captain is ready
