Casablanca – A number of UEFA member associations are urging Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi to consider running for FIFA president to replace Gianni Infantino, according to a report from talkSPORT.
The British outlet reported that calls are growing within European football to field a candidate against Infantino, who confirmed in April that he intends to seek a third term as FIFA president during the organization’s presidential election, which will take place on November 18 in Morocco’s Rabat..
According to talkSport, UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin is considered the strongest potential challenger but is expected to seek another term at UEFA instead of entering the FIFA race.
As a result, several UEFA federations, including Belgium and Poland, are reportedly prepared to support Al-Khaleifi should he decide to stand.
However, talkSPORT says the PSG president currently has no ambition to run and would require “significant persuading” to enter the race.
The report also claims football officials from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Norway, Sweden, Germany, and Spain have discussed backing alternative European candidates, including Legia Warsaw owner Dariusz Mioduski.
Outside Europe, CONCACAF president Victor Montagliani and CAF president Patrice Motsepe have also been mentioned as possible future FIFA presidential candidates.
However, talkSPORT reports that neither is expected to challenge Infantino in this election, with Motsepe instead believed to be targeting a potential bid in 2031, when Infantino would no longer be eligible to run.
The growing discussions reportedly intensified following recent tensions between FIFA and UEFA after FIFA’s disciplinary committee overturned the suspension of United States striker Folarin Balogun during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to talkSPORT, nominations for the FIFA presidency remain open until November 18, with the election set to take place the same day in Rabat, where delegates will vote on whether Infantino secures another term or faces his first contested election in years.
