Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa on a five-year contract worth £35 million.
The signing is set to strengthen the club’s midfield as it prepares for the upcoming season, which will see the team return to the European Champions League competition.
During his three seasons with Aston Villa, Tielemans scored 10 goals and made 24 assists in 134 Premier League appearances. Despite missing 13 matches due to injury, he later returned to become one of the most important members in Villa’s rise under Unai Emery. He helped the team qualify for the Champions League and later win the Europa League by scoring the opening goal in the final against German side Freiburg.
On the international front, Tielemans boasts an impressive record, having captained the Belgian national team during the 2026 World Cup finals, where he scored two goals against Senegal.
This signing marks Manchester United’s second midfield acquisition this summer, following the £50 million deal for Andrey Santos from Chelsea, as the club strengthens its squad ahead of upcoming challenges.

United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, said: “Youri has consistently been one of the most outstanding midfielders in the Premier League throughout the past seven years.”
Wilcox added that the player possesses “all of the technical qualities, as well as the ambition and mentality, to thrive at Manchester United.”
“Youri’s consistency is exceptional, and he will add further composure, creativity, and leadership to our squad.”
With his ability to control the game’s rhythm, start attacks from the deep, and provide assistance to the attack line, Tielemans brings great experience to the team and will help the Red Devils compete fiercely for local and European titles next season.
