Rabat – Former Tunisia head coach Sabri Lamouchi has praised Morocco’s rapid football development, saying dual-national players no longer view the Atlas Lions as a second choice.
Lamouchi said Morocco’s long-term investment in infrastructure, academies and young players has transformed the country into a leading model for African football.
“To be completely honest, 20 years ago we were ahead of Morocco,” Lamouchi said during a media interview.
“Today, Morocco has not only overtaken Tunisia, but has moved ahead of every African country in investment, infrastructure, academies and attention given to young players.”
Morocco’s project attracts dual nationals
Lamouchi argued that this progress has changed how players eligible to represent more than one country view Morocco.
The former international midfielder added that they now choose the national team because they believe in its sporting project rather than because other options are unavailable.
“That is what makes dual-national players choose Morocco today,” he said.
“They are not going there as a second or forced option. They fully understand that Morocco’s project is ambitious and matches their aspirations.”
Morocco has increasingly succeeded in convincing Europe-born players to represent the Atlas Lions, supported by improved facilities, structured youth development and the national team’s growing competitiveness.
The country’s recent performances at major international tournaments have further strengthened its appeal among young players deciding their international futures.
