Rabat – Enzo Fernández apologized to the Albiceleste fans after receiving a red card during last night’s World Cup final against Spain, which ended in Argentina losing 1-0.

Fernandez was sent off in the second half, becoming the sixth player in history to be dismissed in a World Cup final and the third Argentine to do so.

The Chelsea star raised his hands to the Albiceleste supporters, demanding forgiveness as he made his way down the tunnel at the New Jersey stadium.

The red card came after his second fault in the 90+2nd minute of stoppage time, for a collision with Spain’s Pau Cubarsi. The first yellow card resulted from an interaction with the referee.

New rules give the VAR the right to review the second yellow card, and they can intervene if they believe it was undeserved. In this situation, the review was very quick, and VAR confirmed that it was a correct sending off.

While Argentina was trying to force an equalizer, Ferran Torres’ goal was enough to gift Spain the 2026 World Cup.

As soon as the final whistle came, Argentina and Spain players clashed; Leandro Paredes and Eric Garcia were involved in a physical confrontation, ending the chapter of an outstanding World Cup performance with a harsh memory.
