Casablanca – The General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) launched the Morocco-Kazakhstan Business Council on Tuesday during a meeting in Casablanca.
The event brought together government officials and business leaders from both countries. CGEM President Mehdi Tazi chaired the meeting. Kazakhstan’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alibek Kuantyrov, also attended with a delegation of officials and business representatives.
Tazi said the new council will give Moroccan and Kazakh companies a permanent platform to work together and develop new partnerships.
He said trade between the two countries has grown by 68% since 2021 and now stands at more than $460 million. But he added that there is still room to do more.
According to Tazi, sectors such as fertilizers, agriculture, logistics, infrastructure, energy, digital technology, and artificial intelligence offer strong opportunities for cooperation.
He also said Morocco can serve as a gateway to African and European markets, while Kazakhstan provides access to Central Asia. The goal, he said, is to build stronger economic links between the two regions.

Kuantyrov said Kazakhstan wants to strengthen its economic relationship with Morocco. He said the new council should help encourage investment, industrial partnerships, and trade between companies.
The meeting also included presentations by Driss Benomar, who heads the Moroccan side of the council, and Murat Karimssakov, who leads the Kazakh side and is president of the International Chamber of Commerce of Kazakhstan.
Representatives from companies and public institutions then presented opportunities in information technology, finance, agribusiness, port infrastructure, telecommunications, and investment. The event ended with business-to-business meetings between participants.
CGEM said the council is part of its efforts to expand partnerships with Central Asian markets and create new trade and investment opportunities for Moroccan businesses.
The launch comes as relations between Morocco and Kazakhstan continue to grow. The two countries introduced visa-free travel for ordinary passport holders in March 2025. In recent months, they have also held talks on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, education, tourism, and renewable energy.
