Meknes – Major League Soccer (MLS) has launched an investigation into Inter Miami following allegations that the club violated league rules to sign Brazilian midfielder Casemiro.
The probe centers on potential tampering during transfer negotiations, raising questions about whether Miami improperly contacted the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star before securing his discovery rights.
Inter Miami officially signed 34-year-old Casemiro on Wednesday following his departure from Manchester United. The former Red Devil joins through the end of the 2027 MLS season, with an option extending to June 2029.
Shortly after the announcement, MLS issued a statement confirming it is reviewing a tampering allegation against the club.
“The league is gathering all relevant information and will refrain from further comment until the review is complete,” MLS stated.
“While Inter Miami CF and the LA Galaxy have reached a settlement for the discovery priority to sign Casemiro, the terms will be released upon conclusion of the tampering investigation,” it added.
The investigation centers on Casemiro’s discovery rights, an MLS mechanism that grants a specific team first refusal over incoming players. Under league rules, clubs can hold up to five players on their discovery list at any given time, with the flexibility to add or remove targets as needed.
While the Los Angeles Galaxy originally held Casemiro’s discovery rights, Inter Miami stated in their official announcement that they had successfully acquired those rights from LA prior to signing the Brazilian midfielder.
The 34-year-old player revealed in January that he and Manchester United had mutually agreed to part ways at the end of the 2026–27 campaign.
During his time at United, Casemiro made 160 appearances, tallying 26 goals and 14 assists while helping the club secure both an EFL Cup and an FA Cup.
Now with his successful time at Manchester United behind him, the midfielder looks forward to his next chapter in Miami. However, his big move will stay in the spotlight until MLS finishes its investigation.
