Casablanca – The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has confirmed that it will hold a hearing on October 8 regarding the ongoing dispute over the outcome of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final involving the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF), the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).

In an official statement released on Thursday, CAS announced that the hearing will take place at its headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, nearly seven months after Senegal formally filed its appeal on March 25.

The appeal challenges CAF’s decision to declare Senegal had forfeited the AFCON 2025 final and to record Morocco as 3-0 winners.

Senegal is asking CAS to overturn that ruling and officially recognize the Senegalese national team as the 2025 AFCON champions.

According to CAS, the case is proceeding under its standard procedural timeline because none of the parties agreed to expedite the proceedings.

Following the hearing, the arbitration panel will begin its deliberations before issuing a final ruling.

CAS stressed that no decision will be delivered on the day of the hearing and that it cannot yet indicate when the final verdict will be announced.

The court also addressed what it described as inaccurate reports circulating online about the case.

“Only information provided through CAS channels is considered official,” the statement said, adding that any future updates regarding the procedure will be published through its official communication platforms.

The legal battle stems from CAF’s decision following the dramatic AFCON 2025 final, after Senegal’s players left the pitch during extra time in protest over a penalty awarded to Morocco. CAF subsequently ruled that Senegal had forfeited the match and awarded Morocco a 3-0 victory and the continental title.

With the October hearing now officially confirmed, the identity of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations champion will remain unresolved until CAS reaches its final decision.
