Rabat— The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has reportedly set a tentative date for the preliminary draw of the 2026–27 CAF Champions League.
According to Moroccan outlet El Botola, citing an official source within CAF’s Club Competitions Committee, the draw is expected to take place on August 6 in Cairo, Egypt.
The ceremony will reportedly take place after the club registration system closes and participating teams’ squads are approved by their respective national football associations.
The report also states that CAF has officially rejected a proposal by the Egyptian Football Association to increase the number of clubs participating in its interclub competitions.
According to El Botola, CAF’s Competitions Committee decided against making any changes to the tournament format for the upcoming 2026–27 season, keeping the existing structure unchanged.
Morocco will be represented in next season’s CAF Champions League by RS Berkane and Maghreb de Fès, who will enter the competition aiming to make deep runs on the continental stage.
The preliminary draw will determine the opening fixtures for clubs seeking to progress toward the group stage of Africa’s premier club competition.
