Casablanca – Jordan Henderson has reached an agreement to terminate his contract with Brentford with immediate effect. The veteran midfielder, who only returned to the Premier League last summer, is now expected to seal a surprise switch to Chelsea as a free agent.
Brentford have confirmed that Henderson has left the club after a mutual agreement was reached to terminate his contract early, midway through his initial two-year deal. The termination comes amid reports linking him with a move to Chelsea. Chelsea are actively seeking to add experience to a young squad that has lacked veteran leadership over the past two years.
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the former Liverpool captain has agreed to a two-year deal with Chelsea and will sign until June 2028 this week. Henderson has left Brentford, and Chelsea will now welcome the veteran midfielder.
During his single season at Brentford, Henderson played 34 games in all competitions, showing he can still compete at the highest level despite entering the latter stages of his career.
Reflecting on his time at the club, Henderson expressed his deep gratitude for the opportunity he was given after his spell with Ajax. “I leave Brentford with a lot of gratitude for the opportunity the club has given me, as well as for the support and attention shown to me and my family from day one,” said Henderson.
