Agadir – Fuel prices in Morocco have increased by MAD 1 ($0.11) per liter, with distributors applying new rates for diesel and premium gasoline starting Sunday night, August 2. The uptick marks the second consecutive rise in less than three weeks.
The latest adjustment, which took effect at 11:50 p.m. on Sunday, follows an earlier increase introduced in mid-July, reversing the declining trend observed during the previous weeks.
Under the new pricing, diesel is expected to reach around MAD 14.30 ($1.53) per liter, compared with approximately MAD 13.30 ($1.43) previously. Premium gasoline prices are expected to rise to nearly MAD 15.24 ($1.63) per liter, up from around MAD 14.24 ($1.53). Prices may vary slightly depending on the region and distributor.
The new increase comes amid continued volatility in international energy markets, where fluctuations in crude oil prices and shifting global supply conditions continue to shape fuel costs.
The latest adjustment is expected to weigh on households, transport operators, and businesses that rely heavily on fuel for daily operations.
Fuel prices in Morocco are regularly revised by distributors in line with international market trends, exchange rate fluctuations, and supply conditions, as the Moroccan government has repeatedly explained.
Meanwhile, global oil prices fell by around 4% on Monday following renewed discussions between the US and Iran aimed at easing tensions and restoring activity in the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global energy supplies.
The simultaneous rise in national fuel prices and the recent decline in international oil prices are raising questions regarding the mechanisms used to determine pump prices and the speed at which global market changes are reflected locally.
