Casablanca – Moroccan Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch has returned to Morocco after spending less than 48 hours on a private trip to the Spanish island of Mallorca, according to local media.

Reports said Akhannouch flew back late Sunday aboard a private jet that landed at Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport, bringing an end to a brief vacation that began shortly after he attended the Throne Day allegiance ceremony.

He had traveled to Mallorca with several members of his family and a group of friends to spend a short holiday on the island.

The trip coincided with the ongoing fallout from the Ceuta crisis, which has attracted widespread attention in Spain and among European Union institutions following mass crossing attempts, the resulting humanitarian situation, and reported fatalities.

The timing of the trip sparked broad discussion on social media and in several Moroccan media outlets. Coverage focused on Akhannouch’s absence while developments related to the Ceuta crisis continued, with questions raised about the government’s handling of the situation during that period.

Spanish media also reported on Akhannouch’s return. El Confidencial claimed that he  ended his vacation following a direct order from King Mohammed VI, citing sources familiar with the matter.

The newspaper also reported that Akhannouch and the group accompanying him stayed at the Four Seasons hotel in Mallorca and traveled aboard a private aircraft financed through Akwa, the business group owned by Akhannouch himself.
