Rabat – Netflix subscribers in Morocco will pay more for their monthly plans starting September 2, as the streaming platform introduces new subscription prices across the country.
Existing subscribers do not need to take any action, as the updated rates will automatically apply to their next billing cycle.
The Essential plan will increase from MAD 37 to MAD 45 (about $4.85) per month, while the Standard plan will rise from MAD 65 to MAD 80 (about $8.60).
The Premium plan will now cost MAD 115 (about $12.40) per month.
According to an email sent to subscribers, Netflix said the price adjustment supports continued investment in its content library and user experience.
The company highlighted plans to add at least 64 new films and series in the coming month, alongside what it described as an “improved entertainment experience.”
The increase comes less than three months after Morocco introduced new tax obligations for foreign digital service providers.
Since June 11, international companies offering digital services in Morocco, including Netflix, Meta, Google, and TikTok, have been required to register with the General Directorate of Taxes (DGI), submit quarterly declarations of their Moroccan sales, and pay the country’s standard 20% value-added tax (VAT).
The measure was introduced under Morocco’s 2024 Finance Law.
Netflix has not linked its subscription price increase to the new tax requirements, and its communication to subscribers attributes the change to ongoing investments in content and platform improvements.
For Moroccan subscribers, the increase amounts to MAD 8 per month for the Essential plan and MAD 15 for the Standard plan.
Netflix has adjusted subscription prices in several markets across the Middle East and North Africa in recent years as the company continues to expand its regional offerings and invest in new content.
