Meknes – Paris Saint-Germain have finalized the return of French defender Lucas Digne from Premier League side Aston Villa on Sunday.
The deal locks in the defender for the next three seasons. He has put pen to paper on a contract running through the summer of 2029.
While PSG did not release official financial terms, reports indicate the club secured the defender by triggering an $8.5 million release clause in his Aston Villa contract.
This transfer marks the 33-year-old player’s return to Paris 11 years after his first spell with the club. During his initial two-season stint from 2013 to 2015, the defender enjoyed significant success, collecting two Ligue 1 titles, two League Cups, and a French Cup trophy.
“I’d like to thank President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, Luis Campos and coach Luis Enrique. It’s a great show of confidence and I’m delighted to be back at Paris Saint-Germain,” Digne said after the announcement.
“I’m also impressed. The club has changed, it’s reached another level. It’s really incredible to be back here,” he added.
Before his initial stint in the French capital, Lucas Digne launched his professional career with Lille. Following his move to PSG, the full-back also spent a season on loan with Serie A side Roma.
In 2016, Lucas Digne joined Barcelona, where he made 46 appearances over two seasons. His time in Spain proved highly decorated, as he added a La Liga title, two Copa del Rey trophies, and a Spanish Super Cup to his resume.
Digne made his move to English football in 2018 when he signed for Everton. After four seasons with the Toffees, the full-back joined Aston Villa.
On the international stage, Digne boasts 64 caps for France over 12 years. Having featured at two World Cups, his most recent major tournament appearance came during France’s semi-final campaign in 2026.
Coming full circle a decade after his departure, Digne returns to the French capital as a seasoned veteran with extensive European experience. His multi-year deal secures an accomplished defender who already knows the demands of playing for Paris Saint-Germain.
