Meknes – Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) secured an additional dressing room ahead of the Super Cup after voicing strong dissatisfaction with their original setup.
Organizers quickly stepped in to accommodate the French side’s demands, resolving the pre-match dispute before kickoff.
According to BBC Sports, frustration built in the lead-up to Wednesday’s Super Cup, with Champions League winners PSG voicing serious concerns over their facilities at Red Bull Arena.
Under the venue arrangement in Austria, Aston Villa were assigned Red Bull Salzburg’s primary home locker room, leaving Unai Emery’s side with the superior setup. As a result, PSG were relegated to the stadium’s standard away facilities, sparking friction between the two teams.
PSG officially raised the issue during a pre-match logistics meeting on Monday, informing UEFA officials that the away quarters were far too small. The French champions insisted the conditions fell below the standard required for a fixture of this importance.
The same source indicates that PSG argued they deserved equal space to Aston Villa, pointing out that as the reigning Super Cup champions following last year’s shootout victory over Tottenham, they should not be given inferior facilities.
UEFA resolved the issue by providing PSG with an additional dressing room typically reserved for match officials. The solution gave Luis Enrique’s side the extra space they demanded without displacing any game officials.
Fresh off defeating Arsenal to retain their Champions League title in May, PSG now take on Aston Villa, who are playing in their first Super Cup since 1982.
