Rabat – Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo married Georgina Rodriguez in a private civil ceremony on Tuesday, August 11. The wedding took place in the coastal town of Cascais, Portugal. The event formalized a relationship that began 10 years ago in Madrid, Spain.
The couple confirmed the news through a joint Instagram post that showed their hands resting together and clearly displaying wedding rings. Portuguese media quickly dubbed the event the wedding of the year.
The private gathering included their five children and only close family members, according to Portuguese media cited by the BBC. The ceremony took place exactly one year after Rodriguez announced their engagement on August 11, 2025. She shared a photograph of her diamond ring on Instagram, captioning it, “Yes, I do. In this and in all my lives.”
The 41-year-old athlete and the model met at a Gucci store in Madrid. Rodriguez worked there as a sales assistant while Ronaldo played for Real Madrid. They welcomed their first daughter, Alana Martina, in 2017.
The couple currently resides in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Ronaldo joined Saudi club Al Nassr in 2022 and will remain there until 2027. Rodriguez also helps raise the older children and manages her career as an influencer.
The official confirmation followed days of intense public speculation. Rumors previously suggested that Cristiano Ronaldo married Georgina Rodriguez in Madeira. Hundreds of fans gathered outside Funchal Cathedral on August 8.
They expected to witness the highly anticipated wedding ceremony. However, the event at the cathedral belonged to another couple. Ronaldo and his partner managed to keep their actual plans completely secret.
The Brunswick Group, which manages the public relations of the footballer, confirmed to Agence France-Presse (AFP) that the couple wanted a private ceremony. They asked their representatives to share the news without releasing additional media. The single photograph on their social media accounts remains the only visual confirmation.
The 41-year-old recently competed in his sixth FIFA World Cup. This achievement set a record for appearances in the men’s finals. He shares this milestone with Argentine star Lionel Messi.
Ronaldo has scored nearly 1,000 goals throughout his extensive professional career. He previously played for Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus. The striker has won the prestigious Ballon d’Or award five times.
Beyond his record-breaking achievements on the pitch, Ronaldo continues to expand his global legacy off the field. Bloomberg estimated his net worth at $1.4 billion (MAD 14 billion) last year, confirming his status as football’s first billionaire. As he enters the final chapter of his playing career in Riyadh, the wedding marks a grounded personal milestone for the iconic athlete.
