Safi – Zinedine Zidane has named his coaching staff for the France national team, the French Football Federation (FFF) announced today, with former France goalkeeper Fabien Barthez appointed goalkeeping coach.
The federation said the 23-person staff had been “named by its president, Philippe Diallo, on the proposal of the new coach,” and would be presented in full at the start of September.
Zidane takes over from Didier Deschamps, who won the 2018 FIFA World Cup with France and stepped down after the 2026 tournament.
Zidane was appointed on July 28. He returns to management for the first time since leaving Real Madrid in 2021, where he won three successive Champions League titles.
Barthez, the only member of France’s 1998 World Cup-winning squad on the staff, replaces Franck Raviot. He and Zidane also won Euro 2000 together.
David Bettoni, Zidane’s assistant at Real Madrid, joins as assistant manager, succeeding Guy Stephan.
The staff also includes assistant coaches Hamidou Msaidie and Farid Tabet, performance adviser Gregory Dupont, scout Stephane Plancque, and video analyst Clement Ybert, along with medical and support teams.
Zidane will name his first squad in mid-September for three UEFA Nations League matches. France will play away to Turkey on September 25, away to Belgium on September 28, and at home to Italy on October 2.
