Casablanca – Konami has officially added Morocco’s top-flight football league to eFootball, marking a significant step in the Japanese gaming giant’s growing investment in African football.
The addition comes as part of the v6.0.0 major update, with the Moroccan League listed among the headline features in the official patch notes published on Konami’s website.
While the league has been integrated into the game, it is not fully branded under the official Botola Pro identity.
Instead, it is represented as a generic version of Morocco’s first division, similar to the way several unlicensed European leagues appear in eFootball. Despite that limitation, clubs, players, and visual assets have received extensive updates.
The move forms part of a broader strategy by Konami to strengthen its footprint in African football.
Earlier this year, the company became the Official Gaming Sponsor of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), signaling a long-term commitment to expanding its presence across the continent.
Adding Morocco’s domestic league also reflects the country’s growing influence in world football.
Following Morocco’s historic run to the 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-finals and subsequent international success, interest in Moroccan football has surged globally, making the Botola Pro an increasingly attractive addition for football fans and gamers alike.
For Konami, the update also represents a strategic advantage in its ongoing competition with EA Sports.
While its rival continues to dominate licensing agreements for many of Europe’s biggest leagues, eFootball has increasingly focused on securing regional competitions and partnerships across Asia, South America, and now Africa.
The timing is particularly significant given the popularity of eFootball Mobile across North Africa and the Middle East, where mobile gaming has become the dominant platform.
Moroccan fans have long called for authentic domestic clubs to be represented in football video games, and the latest update moves closer to meeting that demand.
The franchise itself remains one of the biggest names in sports gaming. eFootball has surpassed one billion cumulative downloads across mobile, console, and PC, while Konami, founded in 1969, generates more than $3 billion in annual revenue and remains the company behind globally renowned franchises such as Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill, Castlevania, and Yu-Gi-Oh!.
Although the Moroccan League’s arrival is not a fully licensed implementation, it represents another sign of Morocco’s growing profile in global football, both on the pitch and now in one of the world’s most widely played football games.
