Rabat – Morocco has strengthened its position in Norway’s fresh berry market, becoming the country’s leading supplier of raspberries and blackberries in the 2025/26 marketing year, according to EastFruit.
Between July 2025 and June 2026, Norway imported 707 tons of raspberries and blackberries from Morocco, worth more than €9.3 million ($10.0 million). Moroccan shipments increased by 22% compared with the previous marketing year, setting a new record.
Morocco’s share of Norway’s total imports of the two berries also exceeded 50% for the first time. Imports from Morocco have nearly doubled over the past five years.
The increase came despite an overall decline in Norway’s berry imports during the 2025/26 marketing year.
Morocco’s strongest performance came toward the end of the season. In May, Norwegian imports of Moroccan raspberries and blackberries reached a record 216 tons, more than twice the volume recorded in the same month a year earlier.
The timing was particularly important as May marks a transition between Norway’s winter import season and the beginning of its domestic berry season, added the report. Morocco’s export season generally runs from October to May, allowing its producers to supply the Norwegian market during periods when local production is limited.

Portugal has traditionally been another major supplier to Norway, but its exports fell sharply during the latest marketing year. Portuguese shipments declined by nearly 27% compared with 2024/25, allowing Morocco to take the lead.
By the end of the 2025/26 marketing year, Morocco had shipped 215 tons more raspberries and blackberries to Norway than Portugal. The Netherlands, Spain, Mexico, and Poland also supplied the Norwegian market, although in smaller volumes.
Morocco’s rise comes as the country continues to expand its presence in European fresh produce markets. The performance in Norway shows how Moroccan exporters are increasingly using seasonal production windows to supply European consumers when local production is limited.
Morocco has become a major exporter of fresh fruit and vegetables to European markets, benefiting from its proximity to Europe, established logistics networks, and production during periods when European supply is more limited.
The country is particularly competitive in berries, with production concentrated in northern regions including the Loukkos area. Morocco exports fresh berries mainly to European markets, with the UK, Spain, the Netherlands, France, and Germany among its important destinations.
