Rabat – The Atlas Lionesses’ FIFA ranking is currently 64th worldwide with 1402.24 points, as recently updated in August.
Head coach Jorge Vilda and his team finished fourth overall at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) held in Rabat. The team suffered a narrow loss to Algeria in the third-place decider at Moulay El Hassan Stadium, falling 3-2 on penalties.
Maintaining continental status, Morocco continues to be the fourth-ranked nation in Africa, nestled below continental leaders Nigeria, South Africa, and Ghana.
The national sports authorities highlight that the team continues to show significant growth as they ramp up preparations for the upcoming international tournament.
With eyes set on the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the team now fully focuses on preparing for that event, which is scheduled to take place in Brazil the following summer. Morocco, Cameroon, Malawi, and Algeria secured direct qualification for the group stage of the global showpiece.
The technical staff plans to organize high-level friendly matches to improve the Atlas Lionesses’ FIFA ranking ahead of the tournament kickoff.
