The incident occurred at the Metropolitano stadium in Madrid. This marked the first home appearance for Alvarez since expressing his desire to leave the club during the summer transfer window.
The negative reaction began before kickoff, as reported by Spanish newspaper Marca. Fans booed as the name of the 26-year-old forward appeared on the stadium screen.
The hostility continued when the Argentine international stepped onto the pitch for pre-match warm-ups. Spectators booed him again during his second-half appearance.
Club officials advised Alvarez to walk directly to the dressing room after the final whistle. This action aimed to prevent further friction with supporters.
Despite the clear tension, Simeone offered immediate support for his player. The head coach addressed the situation directly after the match.
“We compete with the players we have,” Simeone stated in an interview with DAZN. He emphasized that the coaching staff will fight alongside every squad member.
Simeone elaborated on his stance during the post-match press conference. He highlighted the necessity of retaining world-class talent within the team.
“We need outstanding strikers, and we have one of them, and we must keep him,” Simeone added. The statement sent a clear signal to both fans and club management.
