Fakir was killed on July 19 while two police officers were violently restraining him as they pinned him face down to the ground.

Casablanca – No clear fingerprints have been found on the handcuffs used to restrain Abderrahim Fakir, the 42-year-old Moroccan man who died on July 19 during a police intervention in Bologna’s Pilastro neighborhood.

The findings come from one of the court-ordered forensic examinations carried out on items seized as part of the investigation into Fakir’s death. The examination was conducted on the handcuffs used by two police officers during the intervention on Via Svevo.

Investigators reportedly found a trace of material on the handcuffs that could be blood, although this still needs to be established. Other traces of biological and hair material were also identified.

The absence of fingerprints was described as unusual by Fabio Anselmo, the lawyer representing Fakir’s family. He said the result was “particularly unusual” but could also prove significant for the investigation.

The examination is part of a series of non-repeatable forensic tests ordered by the Bologna Prosecutor’s Office on material seized after Fakir’s death.

Further tests are expected on the handcuffs to establish whether they were the same restraints used during the police intervention that killed Fakir and whether they functioned correctly. The equipment had reportedly malfunctioned during the attempt to restrain Fakir.

Investigators are also examining other evidence collected after the incident. A white, size L T-shirt has undergone biological and hair analysis, with several profiles reportedly identified. Some of the material may also be of blood origin, but further testing will be needed to determine its source.

Additional examinations related to the autopsy are also continuing. In Padua, prosecutors’ experts and experts appointed by the parties are due to carry out further tests on Fakir’s heart, which was removed during the autopsy.

The examination is expected to assess possible signs of toxicity or compression, as well as any previously undetected heart conditions.

The investigation also includes analysis of Fakir’s mobile phone, a three-dimensional reconstruction of Via Svevo by the RIS of Parma, and an examination of bodycam footage by the RIS of Rome.
