Morocco is set to experience a sharp mix of high temperatures and thunderstorms on Wednesday, with some areas expected to see hail and strong wind gusts, according to the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM).
An orange-level weather alert issued by the DGM forecasts temperatures between 42 and 45°C across several southern provinces, including Tata, Es-Semara, Laayoune, Assa-Zag, Boujdour, Oued Ed-Dahab, and Aousserd.
The heat will also affect Guelmim, Taroudant, Tan-Tan, and Tarfaya, where temperatures are expected to range between 38 and 42°C during the same period.
At the same time, thunderstorms are forecast in several provinces across central and eastern Morocco. The storms could bring hail and strong wind gusts, with rainfall totals expected to reach between 25 and 35 millimeters.
The affected provinces include Ifrane, Ouarzazate, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Fquih Ben Salah, Boulemane, Midelt, and Khenifra.
The DGM expects the thunderstorms to occur between 1 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Wednesday, with localized weather conditions potentially becoming severe during the alert period.
The contrasting conditions highlight the continued variability of Morocco’s weather, with intense heat expected in the south while storm activity affects parts of the country’s interior.
Residents in the affected provinces are advised to exercise caution amid the expected weather conditions, particularly during periods of extreme heat and thunderstorms.
People are encouraged to stay hydrated, limit prolonged exposure to high temperatures, and remain alert for sudden hail and strong wind gusts.
