Rabat – Hakim Ziyech has insisted that his move to Brazil’s Botafogo is not the final chapter of his career, saying he remains determined to compete, score goals, and help the club achieve its ambitions.
The Morocco international joined Botafogo on a contract running until the end of 2028 after leaving Wydad Athletic Club.
According to Brazilian reports, his new deal includes a reported monthly salary of around 850,000 Brazilian reals ($165,000), which could rise to one million reals ($195,000) through performance-related incentives.
In an interview with Africa Foot, Ziyech said the offer arrived at a point when he was looking for a new challenge and was attracted by the passion surrounding Brazilian football and Botafogo’s ambitions.
“I did not come to Brazil to end my career. On the contrary. I signed with Botafogo until the end of 2028 because I still have ambition and the desire to win,” Ziyech said.
The 33-year-old added that he wants to contribute on the pitch by scoring goals, providing assists, and helping Botafogo achieve its objectives.
“I want to play, score goals, provide assists, and help the team achieve its objectives. I know what I can still bring. Now it is up to me to prove it on the pitch,” he added.
Ziyech also said that his decision to leave Morocco does not diminish his connection to the country, saying he ultimately chose the environment where he believes he can be happiest and perform at his best.
The move marks a new chapter for Ziyech after his brief spell with Wydad, where he recorded nine goals and two assists in 16 appearances.
