Rabat – Moroccan international Soufiane El-Faouzi has expressed his determination to give everything for the Atlas Lions following his inclusion in Mohamed Ouahbi’s squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Schalke 04 midfielder, who previously joined Morocco’s training camp in May, said he was delighted to return to the national team and eager to contribute to its ambitions.
“I am very happy. I was here in May during the training camp. I loved the place and the atmosphere. It was a wonderful experience, with a very high level of quality,” El-Faouzi said in comments shared by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation.
The 24-year-old explained that his previous experience made his latest selection particularly meaningful.
“I was very happy when I learned that I was part of the final squad for the upcoming matches and the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers,” he added.
“I am very happy and proud, and I want to give my best to help the team.”
El-Faouzi praises Morocco’s football progress
El-Faouzi also spoke about Morocco’s growing stature in international football, pointing to the national team’s performances at the World Cup and the support it receives from its fans.
“Morocco is a great footballing nation. We saw that when the national team reached the World Cup quarter-finals, and we also witnessed the incredible support from Moroccan fans,” he said.
The midfielder stressed that the players must respond to that support through their performances.
“That is very important for us as players. We must give our best and do everything possible to take the Moroccan national team as far as possible.”
He concluded with a message expressing his commitment to Morocco.
“I want to fight for my country. I am ready. We are the Lions, the Atlas Lions,” he declared.
Speaking in Moroccan Darija, El-Faouzi added that he was extremely happy and looked forward to the supporters’ continued backing.
Morocco prepares for AFCON qualifiers
El-Faouzi is among the 29 players selected by Ouahbi for Morocco’s opening two matches in the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign.
The Atlas Lions will host Gabon at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on September 25 before facing Lesotho in Bloemfontein, South Africa, on September 29.
The upcoming fixtures will offer El-Faouzi an opportunity to earn further international playing time and establish himself within Ouahbi’s squad.
