Two separate shootings in South Africa killed nearly 30 people on Saturday night, police announced on Sunday.
The mass shooting took place in South Africa’s Gauteng and Western Cape provinces.
“It is alleged that patrons were drinking inside and outside the tavern when the suspects arrived and opened fire on those outside. The suspects then entered the tavern and continued shooting at patrons inside,” police said in a statement.
Police launched a manhunt fr eight unidentified suspects for their alleged involvement in the shooting that took place on Saturday night in the West Rand District of Gauteng province. The victims included women and men.
Gauteng Police Commissioner General Tommy Mthombeni has confirmed the arrest of a suspect linked to the killing of 17 people at a tavern.
A manhunt is underway for eight gunmen amid ongoing investigations to determine the circumstances and motives of the shooting.
Police said that 17 people were killed on Saturday night when eight suspects, armed with AK-47 assault rifles and pistols.
At least 15 other people sustained gunshot injuries in that attack, police said.
In another statement, police announced at least 10 others were killed in a mass shooting at an entertainment venue. Around 11 others were injured in the same shooting.
The shooting took place as Morocco’s national team arrived in South frica fr their second AFCON qualifier game against Lesotho.
The match will take place on Tuesday next week at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein in South Africa.
Saturday night’s attack took place days after another mass shooting at a house party in South Africa, killing 11 people, including a pregnant woman.
