Rabat – Mikel Arteta has signed a new four-year contract with Arsenal that will keep him at the club until June 2030, extending a tenure that has transformed the Gunners back into one of English football’s leading sides.
Arteta’s previous deal was due to expire in the summer of 2027. Arsenal confirmed the extension on Wednesday, with members of his coaching staff also renewing their contracts.
“It’s a privilege to commit my future to the club and to continue to work with exceptional people who want the best for Arsenal,” Arteta said.
“This club is unique, its character and the way it makes you feel, and I have a great sense of privilege that our journey together will continue.”
The 44-year-old also thanked Arsenal owners Stan and Josh Kroenke for their support, describing the renewal as a “proud moment” for himself and his family.
Arteta rewarded after historic season
Arteta has managed Arsenal since December 2019, when he replaced Unai Emery in his first senior managerial role.
After three consecutive second-place Premier League finishes, he finally guided Arsenal to the title in 2025-26, ending the club’s 22-year wait for a league championship. The Gunners finished on 85 points, seven ahead of Manchester City.
Arsenal also reached the Champions League final for only the second time in their history last season. They drew 1-1 with Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest before losing 4-3 in a penalty shootout, narrowly missing out on their first European Cup.
Arteta now has the highest win percentage of any permanent Arsenal manager, winning just over 62% of his first 361 matches in charge, according to Reuters.
Chief executive Richard Garlick said the club wants to build a sustained period of success with Arteta at the center of its long-term plans.
“This is only the beginning of what we can achieve together,” Arteta said.
Arsenal have started the new campaign with seven victories from eight matches across all competitions, although their perfect run ended with a 3-0 Premier League defeat to Brighton before the international break.
The defending champions currently sit second in the league, three points behind Manchester City, and will return to action against Leeds United on Saturday.
