Morocco team news
The defending champions have enjoyed an impressive start to their pursuit of a fourth consecutive continental title.
Morocco opened the tournament with a 4-0 victory over Algeria before defeating Zambia 7-0 and Libya 6-0, finishing the group stage with nine points and 17 goals scored.
Captain Soufiane El Mesrar starred against Libya with a hat-trick, while Othmane Elidrissi scored twice and Bilal Bakkali completed the victory.
Dguig will also be hoping to recover Soufiane Chaaraoui, who missed the Libya encounter after sustaining an injury against Zambia.
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) previously announced that the player would undergo further examinations to determine whether he could return during the tournament. His availability for Monday’s semifinal remains unconfirmed.
Egypt team news
Egypt reached the semifinals with six points after defeating Tanzania 8-0 and Mozambique 4-0 before suffering a 4-2 defeat against Angola.
The Pharaohs initially led Angola 2-0 through Ibrahim Sayed’s first-half brace, but goalkeeper Ahmed ElMorsi received a red card in the 15th minute, and Angola eventually overturned the deficit.
Egypt also suffered injury setbacks during the encounter. Captain Alaa Eissa later told CAF that four players had sustained injuries, which affected the team’s performance.
Under coach Nader Rashad, the three-time African champions will be looking to recover from that defeat and secure a place in the final.
What to expect
Morocco enter the semifinal with the advantage of home support and an impressive defensive record, although Egypt’s experience makes this a significant test for Dguig’s side.
Both nations have won the continental title three times, with Morocco claiming the last three editions in 2016, 2020 and 2024.
Egypt will need to address the defensive problems exposed by Angola, while Morocco will look to maintain their attacking efficiency against an opponent with considerable continental experience.
The winner will face either Angola or Algeria in the final on Wednesday, October 21, at 8 p.m. in Rabat.
