Rabat – Morocco’s national futsal team have claimed their fourth consecutive Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title after defeating Angola in Wednesday’s final at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Hall in Rabat.
The victory marks another achievement for the Atlas Lions under head coach Hicham Dguig, adding the 2026 trophy to their previous continental triumphs in 2016, 2020 and 2024.
Morocco entered the final unbeaten, having scored 23 goals without conceding in their opening four matches.
The encounter also marked a repeat of the 2024 final, when Morocco defeated Angola 5-1 in Rabat to secure their third consecutive African title.
Morocco complete another successful AFCON campaign
The Atlas Lions began their title defense with a 4-0 victory over Algeria before defeating Zambia 7-0 in their second group-stage match.
They continued their impressive run with a 6-0 win against Libya, finishing top of Group A with nine points from three matches.
In the semifinals, Morocco faced Egypt, one of the competition’s most successful teams, and secured another convincing 6-0 victory.
Bilal Bakkali, Ismail Amazal and Soufian Charraoui each scored twice against the Pharaohs, helping Morocco reach another continental final.
Angola, meanwhile, qualified for the final after completing a dramatic comeback against Algeria.
Trailing 2-0 at halftime, the Angolans scored three unanswered goals in the second half to secure a 3-2 victory and book their place in the title match.
Fourth consecutive African title
Morocco’s latest triumph extends a successful period for the national futsal team, which won its first African title in 2016 after defeating Egypt 3-2 in the final.
The Atlas Lions successfully defended their crown in 2020 with a 5-0 victory over Egypt before lifting a third consecutive trophy against Angola in 2024.
The fourth title further strengthens Morocco’s position among Africa’s leading futsal nations and reflects the team’s consistency under Dguig.
The achievement also gives Moroccan supporters another continental title to celebrate, with the national team completing another successful campaign in front of its home crowd.
