Rabat – Wydad Athletic Club has officially appointed Tunisian Nasreddine Nabi as its new head coach, the Casablanca-based club announced on Friday.
The appointment follows Wydad’s decision to part ways with Paulo Sérgio after an inconsistent start to the 2026-2027 Botola Pro season.
The Portuguese coach joined the club in July on a one-season contract, but Wydad opted for a change after the team struggled to deliver the expected results.
Nabi returns to Moroccan football with considerable experience in the domestic league. He previously coached AS FAR during the 2023-2024 season, guiding the Rabat side to second place in the league and the final of the Throne Cup.
The Tunisian coach also managed Raja Casablanca during the second half of last season. His appointment at Wydad places him in charge of one of Raja’s fiercest rivals, adding another dimension to his return to the Botola Pro.
Nabi’s immediate challenge will be to restore consistency and strengthen Wydad’s push for domestic titles after the team’s difficult start to the current season. His familiarity with Moroccan football could help him settle into the role quickly and improve the club’s performances.
In its announcement, Wydad welcomed Nabi and wished him success in his new role, expressing hope that he would help the team achieve its objectives and meet the expectations of its supporters.
