Casablanca – Samsung Electronics Maghreb officially launched Samsung Wallet in Morocco on Tuesday, allowing users of compatible Galaxy devices to make purchases through their smartphones or connected watches.

The company announced the launch during a press conference in Casablanca, which brought together Ahmed Rehou, Morocco’s Minister of Artificial Intelligence, Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, and Hongseok Lee, president of Samsung Electronics Maghreb.

Samsung introduced the digital wallet through a partnership with Attijariwafa Bank, Mastercard and Visa.

The service allows users to register eligible bank cards in the Samsung Wallet application and use their compatible Galaxy smartphones or watches to make contactless payments at merchants with compatible payment terminals. Customers can complete transactions without taking out their physical bank cards.

To use the payment feature, customers first need to register an eligible bank card in the Wallet app. They can then present a compatible Galaxy device at a merchant’s contactless terminal instead of using the physical card. Samsung says the feature works through compatible smartphones and connected watches, while card and device eligibility will determine whether customers can access it.

Samsung said the service uses Samsung Knox, the security platform that compatible Galaxy devices include. It also relies on authentication and identity verification measures to protect users’ personal and financial information and secure payment transactions.

Beyond payments, Samsung Wallet brings several digital services and items together in one application. Users can store boarding passes, loyalty cards and promotional coupons. The app also supports digital car keys for certain compatible vehicles, allowing users to keep their car access credentials alongside their other digital items.

Hongseok Lee said the launch forms part of Samsung’s efforts to make payments easier through secure solutions that offer added value to Galaxy users in their daily lives.

He added that the launch marks another step in the company’s commitment to developing accessible digital innovations. Lee also pointed to the importance of cooperation with the company’s partners in bringing the service to Morocco, according to Samsung’s statement.

Samsung plans to extend access to the service gradually to customers with compatible Galaxy devices and eligible bank cards from the partner institutions.

Users can download the application through the different app download platforms. Samsung’s official website also provides information about compatible devices and instructions on how to activate the service.

The company said the gradual rollout will cover eligible Galaxy users and cards from participating institutions, meaning access will depend on both device compatibility and the bank card customers hold.
