Rabat – Lahcen Haddad, the former Minister of Tourism and current member of the Society for International Development’s (SID) executive board, was elected, on Monday in Washington, to the board of directors of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Global Parliamentary Network.
“Honored to be elected by my colleagues to serve as member of the Governing Council of the World Bank & IMF Parliamentary Network,” Lahcen Haddad told MWN.
“I will do my best to be up to the mission, namely to make sure there is coordination between parliaments and international financial and development institutions, especially at times when there’s rising doubts about globalization and multilateralism,” he added.
Founded in 2000, the Global Parliamentary Network organizes an international discussion forum with the aim of informing members of parliament of the tangible efforts made by the two monetary institutions in order to fight against social challenges, such as poverty.
The event also highlights the role of members of parliament in international development, and how the World Bank and IMF serve as the home of expertise and investment.
The newly designated member of the board of directors participated in the Global Parliamentary Conference which took place on April 17 and 18 iwith a delegation of five parliamentarians from two chambers in attendance.
In addition to Haddad, members of parliament from a variety of countries, including the United Kingdom, Cameroon, Tunisia, Malaysia and Colombia, have also been designated as new members to the board of directors of the Global Parliamentary Network
