Rabat – Following the Bashar Al Assad regime’s attack against defenseless Syrian civilians, the US Embassy in Rabat, issued a communiqué on Thursday, “condemning in the strongest terms possible, the use of chemical weapons which killed many people, including children and infants, in the Idlib province of Syria.”
The Embassy said that “This barbaric attack with reports of dozens of dead, demonstrates Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s brutal disregard for citizens of Syria, as well as international law.”
The communiqué included a statement from Secretary Tillerson in which he said, “Those who defend and support him, including Russia and Iran, should have no illusions about Assad or his intentions. Anyone who uses chemical weapons to attack his own people shows a fundamental disregard for human decency and must be held accountable.”
The six-year-long civil war, which broke out in 2011 amid the so-called Arab Spring, is still taking a terrible toll on civilians. More than 120 bombs have fallen within the last two days in Ghouta, yet the strike bell is still ringing. In the early hours of April 4, Idlib was pummeled by heavy airstrikes involving weapons containing sarin. The Syrian government vigorously denies it even possesses a supply of the highly toxic substance.
Amid the failure of the International Community and the United Nations and Human Rights organizations, the attack killed more than 70 people thus far. Many of them are children and the death toll continues to climb.
