Rabat – Revenue from Morocco’s annual automobile property tax, nicknamed “La Vignette,” has reached MAD 1.86 billion as of January, 2017.

On the deadline Tuesday for payment of La Vignette, , the General Tax Administration (DGI) announced that 1,876,371 vehicles’ taxes had paid in January.

According to the DGI, the payment rate showed an increase of 5.89% over the same period in 2016, when  revenue from the property tax reached MAD 1.76 billion.

The vignette payment could be still possible after the legal deadline, but with a mandatory fine of 10% in the first month without payment and 0.5% for each subsequent month.

In 2016, the DGI obtained nearly MAD 2.2 billion from the vignette payments, an increase of nearly MAD 340 million over 2015.
