Casablanca -A ten-year-old boy was found hanged using an electric wire in a small village in the province of Ifrane, Morocco. His oldest brother, who was the first to discover him, immediately attempted to resuscitate him. Shortly afterwards, the mother rushed to the location tried to save her suffocating son, to no avail.

The previous day, boy had told his mother that he needed to buy the school supplies required to go back to school. The mother explained to her son that she could not afford the cost of the supplies because the family struggled financially. The next day, he hanged himself.

Just before the suicide, the boy left a farewell letter to his mother on the dining table, apologizing for his decision. In his letter, he explained that he could not go to school without school supplies.

The boy was in 6th grade, and lived with his underprivileged family in a village located in the suburbs of the city of Ifrane. After his family’s unsuccessful attempts to bring him back to life, his body was taken to a mortuary in Azrou, Morocco.

Meanwhile, in reaction to the reports of the suicide, the boy’s father, Mohammed Aarab, denied that the cause of his son’s suicide was school supplies.

In a statement to the Moroccan news website, Alyaoum24, Aarab said that he was surprised when he heard the news reports linking the death of his son to his family’s inability to buy school supplies for him:

“The cause of his suicide caused a shock to our family. My son died and took his secret with him.”
