Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) – Moroccan athlete Azzedine Nouiri on Sunday offered in Morocco its first gold medal at the Rio de Janeiro Paralympics (September 7-18) in the shot put, F34 category.
Nouiri, gold medalist in the discus throw at London Paralympics, dominated the event with a throw of 11.28 meters, ahead of Qatari Abdulqadir Abdulrahman Abdulrahman (11,15m) and Colombian Mauricio Valencia, (11.10 m).
Morocco boasts, so far, three medals, a gold medal, a silver medal won by athlete Mahdi Afri (400m/T12) and a bronze medal won by Mohamed Lahna (triathlon/ PT2).
The Moroccan delegation is composed of 26 athletes in athletics, football, lifting and para-triathlon.
