Taroudante – ACOME, a French cooperative and participatory company developing automotive products and systems, is on track to open a plant in Tangier on April 20th.

The Economist reported in its Friday, April 15th edition that the construction of the new unit will start on April 20th.

The Cooperative Association of Workers in Electrical Equipment (ACOME) is a manufacturer of cables, fiber optics, and synthetic tubes for telecoms and infrastructure networks, buildings, and the automotive industry.

The plant, which will require an investment of € 25 million (about $28 million), will be erected in area more than 18,000 m2, and is expected to provide 150 new jobs.

“The statute of the company was approved early November, endorsing the creation of the Moroccan subsidiary of ACOME,”the company’s head of communications, headquartered in Paris, told the Huffington Post Maroc.

In 2014, Acome realized a turnover of 405 million euros (about $457 million), of which 58% was generated internationally. The company employs nearly 1,400 employees, who after three years of employment become full associates.

The French company, which has factories in Mortain, France; Irate, Brazil; and Shandong and Hubei provinces in China, expects to supply the Renault factory in Tangier and other car factories in Morocco and Africa.

“As a supplier in the automotive sector for more than 60 years, ACOME is now among the three world leaders for zero-halogen environmentally friendly, high tech wires and cables.”
