Rabat — OCP, Morocco’s fertilizer group giant, continues to strengthen its commitment to African sustainable development by launching new initiatives to address the continent’s pressing challenges, including food security.

OCP Africa announced a collaboration with USAID this week, launching the Farmer Service Centers (FSC) project in Rwanda.

The project is carried out in collaboration with Rwanda Fertilizer Company under the USAID Feed the Future-Hinga Wunguke Activity.

“This project will empower seven FSC owners across Rwanda to deliver timely access to essential inputs and services, directly supporting smallholder farmers and driving agricultural productivity,” OCP Africa wrote on X on Friday.

The project aims to boost farmers’ yields and foster sustainability and lasting economic growth in Rwanda.

The Rwanda fertilizer company is a joint venture between OCP Africa and the Rwandan Government.

The company has over 30 staff members and has projects seeking to assist smallholder farmers with soil testing and soil management services.

The project under the OCP School Lab targets 30,0000 farmers in Rwanda.

OCP Africa offers additional services, including farmer service centers, seven of which target 150,000 farmers across the country.

The projects include soil fertility mapping and a farmer’s credit scoring model.

OCP also reaffirmed its commitment toward Africa through recalling the agreements with Benin and the World Bank.

“The implementation of agreements between OCP Africa, Benin, and the World Bank on soil fertility reached a key milestone,” OCP wrote on Saturday, noting that a workshop in collaboration with Benin’s Ministry of Agriculture identified targeted agricultural sectors and defined priority intervention areas.

OCP is determined that Africa has the potential to create a sustainable agricultural revolution enabling the continent to be self-sufficient in terms of food security.

“Africa can lead the way in developing its very own model for a sustainable agricultural revolution,” OCP CEO Mostafa Terrab said last year.

He reiterated the same idea in other interviews recently, emphasizing the need to use fertilizers to boost the continent’s yields and soil health.
