Rabat – A food poisoning case sent at least 140 individuals to the Mediouna Regional Hospital in Casablanca on Sunday.

A  representative of the Ministry of Health in Mediouna, Sahar Bouadel, spoke about the food poisoning cases they received over the weekend.

She told SNRTnews that the  patients were suffering from fever, pain, and high temperature.

They reportedly developed these symptoms after eating in a fast food restaurant in Mediouna.

After receiving the necessary treatment, the majority of the patients were sent home.

Five cases, however, are still in the hospital, and they will leave after medical protocol on Monday.

Some of the other cases were transferred to other hospitals. Five individuals  transferred on Sunday to the Ibn Rochd University Hospital.

Two children were also transferred to another hospital due to their high temperatures. Their poisoning cases were not deemed critical.

Morocco has witnessed several poisoning cases recently.

In September, 63 were victims of a massive food poisoning outbreak in Casablanca after consuming a sandwich at a fast food restaurant in the Sabata neighborhood.

This sandwich mainly consists of eggs, potatoes, rice, and other ingredients, which are often not fresh in these restaurants and can result in unsanitary and unhygienic conditions.

In another incident, 26 people fell ill to food poisoning in Lahraouyine, a small town in the Casablanca-Settat region.

The victims of these food poisoning cases reported to have consumed chicken pastilla, a renowned traditional dish in Morocco’s cuisine.

In May, six victims died in Marrakech due to a fatal food poisoning in Marrakech.
